Angela G. Ray Appointed TGS Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Effective September 1

Modified: May 16, 2017

Dear Members of the Graduate Community at Northwestern,

I am pleased to announce that Angela G. Ray, PhD, Associate Professor of Communication Studies, will become Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at The Graduate School beginning September 1, 2017. In this role, Angela will provide academic leadership for all doctoral, master’s, certificate, and cluster programs under the supervision of TGS. She will oversee the development of curriculum initiatives across program areas, and lead our annual progress review process. As a member of the Dean’s senior leadership team, Angela will work to facilitate good communication and partnership between TGS, graduate programs, partners, and students.

Angela has been a member of the graduate faculty since 2003, and has served on the Academic Affairs Council at TGS, which was formed several years ago to guide the activity of TGS’s Academic Affairs unit. She studies popular, civic education in the nineteenth century, and she has a strong track record of working collaboratively in her own research and modeling transdisciplinary research for her advisees. Angela holds a PhD in Speech-Communication from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, an MA in Drama and Theatre Studies from Royal Holloway and Bedford New College of the University of London, and a BA in Chemistry and English from Transylvania University.

I am impressed by Angela’s thoughtfulness and her enthusiasm for this role, and I hope you will join me in congratulating her on her appointment.

With Warm Regards,

Dwight A. McBride, PhD
Associate Provost & Dean of The Graduate School
