Career Development workshops on the Evanston and Chicago campuses this fall

NCA will be offering a series of Career Development workshops on the Evanston and Chicago campuses this fall. Take a look below to see details for our workshops. You can register for all of the workshops in CareerCat listed in the Events menu under Workshops. Grad students and Postdocs from all disciplines are welcome to attend.  
Postdocs can follow the instructions to create an account by selecting “Alumni and Postdoc Access.” Feel free to contact nca@northwestern.edu with any questions.
  
Grad and Postdoc Online Job Search Resource Workshop  
Walk through the variety of databases you have access to in order to conduct a more targeted search based on industries and organizations of interest. Learn how to access various industry-specific career guides and thousands of company profiles to help you answer questions like: Who are the companies to be aware of? What are the current industry employment trends? What are the typical roles available to someone with your level of experience?    
   
Join us for an interactive workshop dedicated to exploring the online job search resources NCA has to offer. Graduate students and Postdocs are welcome. RSVP in CareerCat today!

How to Network with LinkedIn   

Come learn about LinkedIn, including how to optimize your profile and establish an online presence. Not sure how to find fellow alumni from your field or in an industry you're interested in?  Bring your laptop and we will walk through the tools LinkedIn offers together! Attendees will have the opportunity to take a professional photo at the conclusion of the workshop. RSVP in CareerCat today!

Networking at Conferences for Grads and Postdocs 
Attending an academic or professional conference this year? Come participate in an interactive workshop to help prepare you to develop a strategy for navigating social and professional venues.  Who do you talk to and how can you approach them? What types of questions can you have prepared in advance?

How to Navigate the Academic Job Search  
(In partnership with the Office of Work/Life and Family Resources) 
Are you going on the market this fall? Elysse Longiotti from Northwestern Career Advancement and Lesley Lundeen, the TGS Family Resource Liaison, will be holding open walk-ins for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows applying for academic jobs this year. Bring your materials and questions on any aspect of navigating the academic job market, including how to manage work/life/family concerns during the application process and interviews. Children are welcome.
