Workshop Description:

Conventional wisdom about innovative pedagogy holds that lecture = bad and discussion = good. This workshop will push back somewhat against these assumptions and offer strategies to break out of the traditional lecture/discussion binary. We will provide participants with strategies they can use to encourage active participation and engagement in both large and small courses.

Workshop Facilitators:

Pamela Krayenbuhl is a sixth-year PhD candidate in Screen Cultures who studies intermediality and adaptation, particularly the relationship between dance and screen media; she is completing a dissertation on codetermining performances of race and masculinity in dance on American popular screens between 1945-1965.

Margaret Lebron is a sixth-year PhD Candidate in the Performance Studies department and is completing her dissertation on performances of militarization and the representation of veterans’ bodies onstage.
