TGS Seeks GA for Social Media Management

The Graduate School (TGS) is seeking a Social Media Intern to join our Communications & Outreach team for the 2017-2018 Academic Year. The intern will work in a paid, 10-month position, interacting with leadership in higher education and gaining experience creating strategic social media content across all TGS-affiliated accounts that showcase current activities of the graduate community, including students, faculty, staff, and postdoctoral fellows. 

Position Description

The intern will work closely with TGS’ Communications Representative to research current trends, brainstorm new ideas for engagement, plan, and write compelling content for the three main social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter). Applicants must have a solid understanding of how to effectively communicate across all three platforms. Experience with video or photography a plus.

This position is five-seven hours per week and pays $7,200 for ten months.
 

Principal Duties

  • Create comprehensive plans for social media pages that are relevant to events at Northwestern and inline with the goals of TGS.
  • Research current trends in social media, focusing in higher education and recruitment, and consider how to incorporate into TGS’ own strategies.
  • Accompany TGS Communications Representative to TGS events to photograph and document for social media pages.
  • Conduct interviews with current TGS students, staff, faculty, and postdocs.
  • Work with TGS student groups to highlight their work and promote their events. 

Qualifications:

  • TGS doctoral or MFA student in good academic standing.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required, with the ability to work with a wide variety of personalities.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, and attention to detail, required.
  • Strong research and writing skills required.
  • Previous experience planning, writing, and managing social media accounts
  • Experience creating communications and published materials for the public preferred.
  • Past participation in relevant student organizations at Northwestern preferred.
