Compensation

All postdoctoral fellows will be paid at least the minimum salary set forth by Northwestern University. The University will communicate the salary minimum to all units sponsoring postdoctoral scholarship. Effective December 13, 2016, Northwestern has set the minimum postdoctoral fellow salary at $47,476. Postdoctoral Fellow job titles include: Postdoctoral Fellow, Postdoctoral Fellow – Dept of Education, Visiting Postdoctoral Fellow and NRSA Postdoctoral Fellow (please see NOT-OD-17-003 for FY17 NRSA Postdoctoral Stipend levels). Postdoctoral appointments supported by sponsored awards with a salary level above the Northwestern minimum should abide by the policies, requirements and compensation levels outlined by the sponsored funding organization.
 
Postdoctoral appointments are made by Northwestern Departments, Centers and Institutes and are approved by the appropriate school Dean’s Office or the Office for Research (for Research Centers and Institutes based in the Office for Research). Questions regarding University compensation requirements should be directed to the Office of Human Resources. Questions on compensation from individual postdoctoral fellows should be directed to the appropriate Departments, Centers, Institutes or the school Dean’s Office and the Office for Research.
