AAAS Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering Workshop 2023
The Graduate School (TGS) and Office of Federal Relations are pleased to invite graduate students in science, technology, engineering, math, and behavioral science fields to apply to participate in the AAAS Catalyzing Advocacy in Science and Engineering (CASE) Workshop. The CASE Workshop is a three-and-a-half-day program in Washington, DC (Sunday, March 26–Wednesday, March 29) bringing together STEM students from across the country to learn about Congress, the federal budget process, and effective science communication.
Northwestern University has been selected as a sponsoring institution for the 2023 Workshop. Each sponsoring institution can select two students to participate. Northwestern will cover travel, lodging, and workshop fees for the two selected participants.

Application Requirements
To apply, please complete this online application (sign in with your NetID password) by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, February 15. Applicants will be notified of selection decisions within the following week.
The online application asks that you provide the following information:
- Name, email, cell phone, NetID and student ID
- Academic program
- Brief answers (up to 250 words each) to the following questions/prompts:
- Please explain your interest in the AAAS CASE Workshop and how participation will help you achieve your career and professional development goals.
- Why should emerging scientists engage in policymaking, advocacy, and effective communication?
- Describe a plan for sharing your experiences and findings from the AAAS CASE Workshop with the broader Northwestern community?
- A current CV
- A signed note from your faculty advisor stating, “I approve [Name’s] participation in the AAAS CASE Workshop, and acknowledge that [Name] will be attending the workshop from March 26-29, 2023.”
