Apply to Become a 2023–24 CARE Student Service Aid

The Center for Awareness, Response and Education (CARE) is seeking a student service aide for the 2023–24 academic year. The student service aid is a part-time employee who is supervised by the Assistant Director for Prevention and Masculine Engagement at CARE and will work closely with the Assistant Director of Outreach for CARE and the Director of CARE.

The Center for Awareness, Response and Education is a unit of the Dean of Students Office. CARE is a confidential space for students impacted by sexual violence, relationship violence, or stalking, including friends and partners of survivors. The individual in this position assists the Assistant Directors in all matters pertaining to the Northwestern University Bystander Intervention Program, an expanding initiative that trains students, staff, and faculty to recognize and intervene in moments of harm or potential harm. This role will require very strong communication and organizational skills. Facilitation and marketing abilities are also required. If time and capacity allow, the student worker will also assist in other areas of prevention. Specific responsibilities are outlined below.

The student worker will start as soon as possible, with a flexible 10-12 hours per week schedule.

Responsibilities of the CARE Student Aide include:

  • Assist the Assistant Directors in overseeing the NU Bystander Intervention Program, and any other programs related to social justice education or harm reduction/prevention.
  • Facilitate workshops on bystander intervention.
  • Oversee the workshop intakes, scheduling, and communications with NU Bystander Intervention.
  • Adapt and edit workshop and training curriculum.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of new facilitators for bystander intervention.
  • Develop partnerships with individuals and areas of priority for our bystander intervention work.
  • Develop and oversee marketing and passive programming for the Bystander Intervention program, and support general CARE marketing.
  • Assist in creating and implementing assessments for programs and training for Bystander Intervention.
  • Assist in other areas of prevention as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the assistant director.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Bring multiple and intersecting perspectives around identity and social justice.
  • Have experience and confidence in facilitating dialogues and workshops on bystander intervention, social justice, or related topics.
  • Have strong interpersonal and communication skills for facilitation and teamwork.
  • Have worked independently or collaboratively to organize and implement trainings, workshops, or retreats.

CARE Student Aides should have strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, cultural awareness and sensitivity, and the ability to complete a broad range of responsibilities/projects. Student Aides must be at least part-time students and are expected to work at least 10 hours per week at $16/hour.
