Why did you choose Northwestern?
My two older brothers preceded me as Northwestern engineers.
How would you describe your research and/or work to a non-academic audience? What was it then and/or what it is now?
Investigation of mechanical properties of polymer blends. This led me to a very satisfying career in the rubber industry.
Tell us who or what inspired your research and/or work.
Professor John Brittain formalized my native interest in the mechanical properties of materials.
What are you most proud of in your career to date?
Research on the development and use of the power integrator for rubber mixing control while at B.F. Goodrich R&D Center.
Tell us about a current achievement or something you're working on that excites you.
Being retired, I have no organization-supported projects. However, I have been working with one of my granddaughters on a concept to use recyclable plastic to compression mold panels to be used to build temporary housing, e.g., in response to natural disasters.
What advice would you give your younger self or someone considering a similar path?
Find what brings you satisfaction and in which you have the ability and make that your center.
