Huseyin Atila Ozgener
Why did you choose Northwestern?
I chose Northwestern because it was one of the best research universities in the country.
How would you describe your research and/or work to a non-academic audience? What was it then and/or what it is now?
My doctoral research was the development of a novel finite element technique for the neutron transport calculations at the subassembly level preserving the heterogeneous structure.
Tell us who or what inspired your research and/or work.
My thesis adviser, Dr. Elmer E. Lewis mentored me into this area of research.
What are you most proud of in your career to date?
I am proud to be an alumnus of Northwestern.
Tell us about a current achievement or something you're working on that excites you.
Currently, I am involved in the neutronic calculations of circulating flow reactors which is one of the promising Gen IV reactors. I have already published two papers in this area and still working enthusiastically.
What advice would you give your younger self or someone considering a similar path?
Computational methods in nuclear engineering are a challenging area. I would recommend this research area to aspiring young researchers.
