Why did you choose Northwestern?
By virtue of the University’s breadth and depth capabilities to offer excellent and outstanding educational and research facilities.
How would you describe your research and/or work to a non-academic audience? What was it then and/or what it is now?
For 30 years, I was involved in infrastructure and civil engineering throughout the U.S. This included roads, railroad systems, waterways, traffic management, highways, and airports.
Tell us who or what inspired your research and/or work.
Dr. Donald Berry, my Northwestern adviser, was the initial processor of modern transportation engineering techniques in the U.S.
What are you most proud of in your career to date?
I received the Northwestern Alumni Association Alumni Merit Award on March 2, 2013, was a recipient of the Transportation Center Fellowship, am a member of NU Loyal-Platinum Level, have a lifetime membership of the Board of Regents, am a lifetime member of the Eagle Scout Association of America, and am the author of two transportation-related books.
Tell us about a current achievement or something you're working on that excites you.
Working on a major reunion of former infrastructure students at Washington University.
What advice would you give your younger self or someone considering a similar path?
Continue to work hard. Never quit.
